Maison Marou's Terminal 1 boutique at Changi Airport is the first store the Vietnamese chocolate maker opened outside Vietnam. The Straits Times reported in July 2026 that it was founded in 2011 by Vincent Mourou and the late Samuel Maruta, and that The New York Times called it "The Best Chocolate You've Never Tasted" in 2016. The article said Maison Marou works directly with family-owned cacao farms across six regions of southern Vietnam and then ran 26 stores in Vietnam, 24 of which were cafés. At the time of that July 2026 interview, Mourou said products were made in Vietnam from local ingredients, with milk and cream from New Zealand, and the company projected 300 tonnes of output for 2026 against 220 in 2025. He told the paper that an invitation from Changi Airport in November 2024 accelerated a Singapore opening the brand had been considering, that Hong Kong and then Paris were next, and that he had not ruled out bringing the café format to a more central Singapore address; a durian bar had been "tested but not released". The Straits Times' 24 July 2026 report listed the Singapore-exclusive bars at S$15.10 for gula melaka dark chocolate, S$17.20 for kopi and popped rice, and S$17.20 for the kaya-toast bar. These are opening-period reported prices, not current official prices. One practical issue remains unresolved: Time Out's 13 July 2026 report places the boutique in Terminal 1's Departure Transit Area and says a boarding pass is needed, while The Straits Times' 24 July 2026 report places it in the Departure Hall.
